League season over – summer fun to begin

The regular league season is over for all of our teams.

Our men’s 1st team finished 5th in the Premier league, a result that reflects the mixed performances throughout the year, where we lost matches by 1 goal to the winner of the league and drew against the 7th placed on other days. More consistency will allow us to finish better next year.

Unfortunately with just two wins this season, our women’s team finished last in the Premier league and therefore is getting relegated to the regional league next season. Rebuilding with a strong intake from our junior section, we will try to have a more positive season next year.

Our 2nd men’s team finished 2nd in the East Regional league A and is going to play in a final 4 tournament next weekend against the top two teams from the East Regional League 1 to determine their final ranking.

In the junior section, we had both boys and girls compete in U16 competitions, and while we did not record many victories, it gave our young players the chance to compete against their own age group.

In the U19 leagues, our girls qualified to the 1st southern division and recorded several wins in that league as well (i.e. against Olympia), while our boys team only played in the 2nd southern division due to weaker performances early on, but then dominated that league and won it by beating all opponents.

Overall, it was a busy year for the club and now we are looking forward to the off season.

We have several summer activities coming up.

On the 19th of May our 2nd men’s team plays in the aforementioned final 4 tournament in Leyton, taking on London GD at 12.30pm in the first match and depending on the outcome will compete for the 3rd or 1st place later in the day.

On the 14th of July the Cambridge Handball Club will be at the Big Weekend in Parker’s Piece in Cambridge for trial sessions and to show what handball is all about.

On the first weekend of August (4-7th) we will take part in the British Beach Handball Competition in Poole, having fun in the sand.

End of August/early September we are planning a training camp abroad again.

Trainings are continuing throughout the summer, but please watch out for occasional changes to dates and venues.
